Lubuntu 12.04 LTS image with VMware Tools This VMware image has the fine Lubuntu 12.04 inside. It comes with five years of Ubuntu support and has the VMware Tools already installed.
Instead of Unity, the new desktop revolution from Ubuntu, this Lubuntu image uses LXDE. The L stands for lightweight and the result is speed. LXDE uses the accustomed hierarchical start menu and offers as such a common desktop experience. See yourself how that compares to Ubuntu's new desktop workflow ideas and download also the Ubuntu 12.04 image with VMware Tools. If you like the one without VMware Tools more, then get this basic Ubuntu 12.04 VMware image. In our opinion there is a clear winner, namely Lubuntu with the LXDE desktop system. Its advantages are a small memory footprint, less RAM necessary, smaller download size, and last but not least, it is lightning fast. All that combined with a desktop that is ergonomic. LXDE can still be used by mortal humans and not only by uberdevelopers with a fatal tendency to the command line. Perhaps Ubuntu had better given the standard name "Ubuntu" to the LXDE-version and called its Unity version "Tubuntu", as in "Tablet Ubuntu", instead of creating a "Lubuntu". If this name proliferation goes on, they may even come up somewhere down the road with a "Huhbuntu?". Preinstalled apps: Chromium, Transmission, Sylpheed, Gnumeric, Abiword, Simple Scan, Pidgin, mtpaint, Audacious, Osmo, MPlayer and some more tools like Xfburn and the GCC compiler.
